Review of Gateway to Hell by Eleni Konstantine

Gateway to Hell
A Warder Tale Book One

Zeta's already not much of a people person. Maybe that makes her perfect for sweeping demons up into her personal gateways to hell. Unfortunately the whole " I can open and close gateways to Hell" doesn't really help in any other aspect of a personal life though. Meeting Daniel Richards though is a bit refreshing since once he believes her he sees it as a definite bonus. Downside...can Zeta trust herself to not hurt Daniel. She can't live with more mistakes. What she doesn't know though, is that she can't live without him either. Tricky Demons...

Good starter book. Looking forward to the next one, hopefully it will be longer!! Would have enjoyed to read it a while longer. 3.75 out of 5 stars. As warned before the first page, this book has very adult content!

I REALLY REALLY wanted to give this 4 stars but this wasn't long enough

Review A Horse Called Trouble by C.K. Volnek

A Horse Called Trouble

A throwaway kid. A throwaway horse. Neither deserving of the title, but both thrown into the misnomer against their wills.

Tara is unwanted by her mother, deserted by her father, and the victim of a cruel plan to ruin her life. Trouble is a horse, tortured by a spoiled, self-centered girl—the same one who is out to destroy Tara’s future. Nothing is ever said as to why this girl has such hatred to both Tara and the horse; in the end, it doesn’t really matter.

But when Trouble meets Tara, and the two bond, it changes both of their lives. And in the end, Tara learns that she is in no way a throwaway child. In fact, she is better off than the privileged child who continually tries to take away her hopes and dreams.

What a wonderful picture Ms. Volnek draws for the reader in this book! It’s obvious from the start that she knows about the psychological workup of the foster child. The way she leads her protagonist, Tara, out of her shell and into the strong, confident young lady she becomes is truly magic. Not to say that there isn’t some holding back; Ms. Volnek makes it clear how hard it is to go from the mindset of “I’m not wanted” to “I am worth something” for those who know no other life than rejection.

The magic between Tara and the horses may seem a bit unreal to those uninitiated into the realm of people who struggle with self-esteem every day, but it is a candle of hope to the reader who has had to deal with it. Anyone who has had the heel of rejection ground into them in day-to-day living can relate to catching that one straw, that one glimmer of hope, that can lead to a life of happiness. It is a metaphor more than a reality, although I cannot attest to the bond that can happen between horse and human. Ms. Volnek definitely can, because she has experience with horses—and that comes through loud and clear. Her story is very easy to read, without being simplistic; the characters are very believable, and the story is seamless. I cheered at the ending. It was a little predictable, but made me happy nonetheless.

Review of Dirty Little Christmas by Julie Leto

Dirty Little Christmas

Marisela, is a secret agent working for an organization called Titan. It is Christmas time and she is going to pick up her sister Belinda at the airport, a surprise for her parents. Belinda has issues of her own. Diagnosed with a high functioning autism, she does not do well socially. Even though she is brilliant and working in a successful business, she doesn't show emotion and has many quirks of her own. So when Belinda steps off the airplane pregnant, Marisela is more than a little surprised. She is even more surprised when they are attacked, Belinda is kidnapped, her car is blown up and her best friend, who came with her is severely hurt. So with Belinda pregnant and now kidnapped, Marisela turns to the one person she knows who will help her get Belinda back at any cost, Frankie. Frankie is Marisela's ex-partner from Titan, ex-boyfriend, sometime lover and the one person who broke her heart as a teen. Frankie will do anything for Marisela. He knows he hurt her when they were young but loves her still. So with the two of them tracking down Belinda's kidnappers, sparks fly and the action and suspense counties to build.

A mystery, action, book with some hot sex scenes, what more can you ask for? Julie keeps you on the edge of your seat and wondering how they are going to get away with everything or even just get out safe. As you learn more about Belinda, you begin to wonder how the pregnancy happened. And when the Japanese mob joins the fun, the action is amped up even more. Really enjoyed the book. Sex scenes are hot and the chemistry between the 2 main characters is amazing. Marisela is a VERY strong character, takes no shit from no one. So if you love strong women characters and  action above and below the sheets, this book is a must read! Thanks for the great read Julie Leto!

Interview with Julie Leto!!

Ok lets welcome Julie Leto to Julie's Book Review. Julie Leto is giving away a copy of DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS, digital for Kindle or print, US shipping only. So make sure you check out the rafflecopter to the right of the page.

Welcome Julie! How are you doing today?
I'm excellent!  The sun is shining and the Florida skies are turquoise blue.  It's a great day!
How about you tell us a little about yourself?
I am doing well. Thanks for asking.

How About you tell us a little about yourself.
Okay!  I'm a Florida girl, born and raised.  I live in Tampa, the city currently famous for military scandals, though if it makes anyone feel better, I live WAY on the other side of town.  I'm the only girl in an Italian-Cuban American family of boys (besides my mom, of course!) and we all live within a few miles of each other.  I'm a single mom of a teenage girl whom I adore and I've been writing since I was twelve, but professionally since I turned 32.

What type of books do you write? What genre's?
I started my career with Harlequin, writing sexy contemporaries for Temptation and Blaze, where I was one of the line's launch authors.  I've also written for Simon & Schuster, Penguin and HCI Vows.  Right now, however, I'm concentrating on an Indie career and I'm loving the freedom that has come from that decision.  After acquiring the rights to the books I wrote for Pocket and NAL, I've republished both series and am working on creating new content.  The Dirty series is sexy, action-adventure suspense and my Phantom series is contemporary paranormal.

Are you working on anything right now?
Very exciting developments!  The first new addition to my Dirty series is hitting Amazon now!  It's called DIRTY LITTLE CHRISTMAS and it's a lengthy novella (over 40,000 words) that is a transition between the first two books and the upcoming fourth full-length book, TALK DIRTY TO ME.  I'm working on that one now.  I'm also playing with an idea for a transition story for the Phantoms.

What about your newest release?
DIRTY LITTLE CHRISTMAS is sexy, suspenseful and action-packed.  It features my ex gang-banger heroine, Marisela Morales, and her sexy ex, Frankie Vega.  Marisela has gone to work for a high-end security firm, but they are closed for the holidays and all the spies are off-grid, so when someone close to her is kidnapped, she has to turn to the one man she can't stop loving to help her.  I'm very excited about the story and can't wait to hear what readers think!

Did anyone help you as a writer? inspirations? support?
I have had so many supports in my career...but right now, my heart belongs to four remarkable women.  The first is Stephanie Bond.  She's a colleague whom I met when we wrote at Temptation together.  She's a giving soul and a fantastic writer and she helped guide me in my transition from traditional to indie author.  Without her, I never would have been able to make it work.  And then, of course, the Plotmonkeys: Carly Phillips, Janelle Denison and Leslie Kelly.  We share a blog, but I think we also share a soul.  They're the best friends a girl can have and they've helped me in so many ways, it would fill a book.  Heck, a whole series!

Is there a character from your books you would love to meet in person? why?
Ooh...I know everyone would expect me to say Marisela, but I feel like I have met her in person.  I wouldn't mind meeting Max.  Max is a secondary character in the Dirty books who intrigues me a great deal.  He always, ALWAYS surprises me, and I'm the writer!  There is so much more to him...he's an onion I haven't even started to peel.  And he's kind of sexy.

Any advice for inspiring authors?
A writer writes--always.  (Borrowed from Throw Mama from the Train.)  But it's true.  And I also don't think writing is the hard part--I think REwriting, or editing, is where the magic happens.  So write your first draft.  Give yourself permission to write crap.  You can fix it later, but you can't fix a blank page.

How about something fun?
I'm always game!

Fuzzy, ankle or tube socks?
Fuzzy!  I rarely wear socks, though...I live in Florida and contrary to what many tourists think, socks look weird with sandals.

A Favorite author?
Only one!?  Say it isn't so!  I have to confess, I'm a historical romance junkie.  My current favorite author is Tessa Dare.  She's so smart and so charming...and her books are, too!  Those are my comfort reads.  When I'm having a reading slump, I will go back and re-read her books.  And when her new ones are out, I read them on the first day.

Dog or cat?
I have both.  I'm more of a dog person, but I find my cat endlessly amusing.

A Favorite Book?
A BOY'S LIFE by Robert McCammon.  I know I should pick a romance, but this book showed me that commercial fiction can be lyrical and tense at the same time.  I never got into his other works, but this one was transformative.

Toughest criticism?
Of me? I don't like being told anything about myself that in a man would be admired.  Like that I'm pushy (when really I'm just determined) or that I'm bitchy (when really I'm just honest.)  I'm a very kind, very thoughtful person, but I sometimes don't come across that way because I don't shy away from saying what I think.  But it's not so tough to hear anymore since I've been hearing it my whole life, LOL!

Best Compliment?
That I'm a good mom.  Because honestly?  I rock. ;-)  Seriously, I think being a mom is my most important job on the earth.  I'm also maternal to my friends, in a mama-bearish way.  They know I have their backs.

Julie it has been a pleasure. Where can we find you and your books?
I can't thank you enough for doing this interview!  Right now, my books are all exclusively available at Amazon for the Kindle or Kindle app (which is free for your computer or smart phone.)  I know this is disappointing to some readers who don't read this way, but it was a business decision that has, so far, made all the difference in the world to my continuing to write.  I hope readers will check me out...they can read excerpts at my website, www.julieleto.com!

Julie Leto Blurb & Excerpt Dirty Little Christmas

Dirty Little Christmas By Julie Leto

Blurb:
Sex, lies and mistletoe…
Marisela Morales has a secret…and after a year of successful assignments as a security specialist, she knows how to keep one. But when a man on a mission to claim his birthright changes Marisela’s Christmas surprise into a treacherous game of cat and mouse, she’s forced to turn to the one partner who has never let her down—sexy Frankie Vega. Can they save an unborn child caught in a deadly power-play…or will this holiday season end without a Christmas miracle?

 Excerpt:
“Frankie, I need you.”
She’d had to rip the words out of her throat as if they were sick, pussed tonsils, but she’d said them and wouldn’t take them back. Not until she found Belinda and made sure the pendejos who took her paid with their balls—or their lives, if they’d hurt her or the baby.
“Come on, vidita. It’s almost Christmas. Can’t you wait for a booty call until after the new year?”
His chuckle warmed her heart, then shot the heat lower before her bloodstream reacted with an icy blast of cold. She didn’t have time to fuck around with him, literally or figuratively.
“Cállate la voca, Frankie. The only kind of booty I’m interested in is the kind I kick. I’m at the airport. I was picking up Belinda to surprise my parents for Christmas and—”
“—and somehow, you’re involved in the explosion on the top of the parking garage.”
“How did you know?”
“Police scanner. Shit, Marisela. What the fuck did you do?”
“I didn’t do anything except try to save my sister from being snatched by some brutes in an SUV. And I failed. She’s gone. She wasn’t here for five minutes. And Lia’s hurt. I need a ride. The cops are going to start asking questions and…”
“Go to the hospital.”
“I’m fine—” she insisted.
Frankie cut her off. “You want to keep the cops from getting all up in your business, then fake a fucking migraine or pass out or something. I’ll meet you at the emergency room.”
Frankie disconnected her call, which had the added effect of pissing her off. Her ex had a way of getting on her last nerve, even when he was doing something to help.
But she took his advice, understanding that while she was under medical care, the police wouldn’t grill her. Just as she slipped her phone back into her pocket, the six-foot Amazon detective in the navy suit, gold blouse and killer knock-off heels started toward her with Marisela’s Smith & Wesson dangling inside an evidence bag. Marisela figured this was as good a time as any to let her eyeballs roll back in her head and pass out.

Note from Julie: This is a brand-new, never-before-published novella in the “Dirty” Sexy Suspense series. Currently, it is available only at Amazon for the Kindle or Kindle App. If you’d like to know when the book will be released to other platforms, such as Nook or Kobo, please sign up for my newsletter or subscribe to the front page of my website. Carrie Ann Ryan Blurb and Excerpt

Santa’s Executive Blurb

Justin Cooper wasn’t always the straight-laced Holiday Elementary School principal. In his youth, he broke all the rules and enjoyed being the bad Cooper brother. One Christmas Eve night he got a little too rowdy and things changed forever. Now the consequences of that fateful night have come back in full force and the myths of Christmas might be more real than he thought.
Rina Brewer is one of Santa’s elves. Not the tiny cute little toy maker, but the sexy, petite, energy filled bombshell kind. She’s come to Holiday to aid Justin in his new role as Santa’s executive, but as soon as she sees the sexy ex-bad boy, she realizes the job may be more than she bargained for.
As they work together to make this Christmas one to remember, an old foe has come to town to make sure that this holiday is the coldest yet.
Warning: Contains a perky elf who dreams of something more, a Christmas myth who may be a baddie, and a sexy ex-bad boy who craves Christmas cookies…and a certain perky blonde.

Excerpt:

It would be totally inappropriate to want him.
But, in reality, the connection between an assistant and their executive could be an intimate one if they let it. They were sharing magic, and sometimes a connection would hold. She hadn’t thought about that when she’d come down here. Honestly, she hadn’t thought much of anything. But, she couldn’t think of any of that now. No, she had work to do.
Plus, the object of her thoughts was staring at her with an intensity that threatened to send shivers of need down her body.
“Rina?” Justin’s deep voice caught her attention, and she wanted to moan. Fruitcake, she had to get off that track. “What’s wrong? Are you still cold?”
He pulled her closer and ran his hands up and down her arms. She almost closed her eyes and leaned into his touch but resisted. Barely.
“I’m fine, just warming up.” She pulled back from his arms and tried to ignore the sudden loss. “Are you ready to go?”

Carrie Ann Ryan Santa's Executive Review

Santa's Executive

Anna is a filer. In her job she files old list. She does not like her job. She has been keeping track and watching how others deal with the executives of the business. She knows she can do the job. She sees one executive who has not been told what his job is and does not have a assistant. She could sneak away, no one would miss her. That is her plan, go while no one is looking and help this executive. Did I mention Anna is a elf,. she works for Santa. She knows that Justine, in Holiday, Montana, has no clue that he is an executive of Santa's. So Anna decides she is going to prove she can do the job. Justin, one the Cooper brothers, has been having issues. He is craving sugar cookies like no bodies business and feels like something is different. So on Thanksgiving day, while at his brothers house, a woman comes to the door. Justine opens the door to a beautiful short (about 5') woman, and for some reason he knows there is something different about her. Now Anna much first prove who she is, show him how to do his job and some how resist his charms. The two hit it off right away but Anna's boss comes to Holiday, Jack comes to see what Anna has been up to. Will Justin be able to control his new powers or his lust for Anna? What will a jealous boss do to Anna and Justin and will it ruin Christmas?

This was a very cute book. Loved the characters. Justin is just a sweet guy (not just from all the cookies) hehehe. Anna is a girl who wants a new job and knows she can do the one she wants. Falling for Justin is just a happy outcome. The book revolves around the 2 characters and we get a little taste of characters to come and some we meet in book 1. A wonderful, exciting Christmas story, with a little sexy thrown in. Although not my favorite book by Carrie Ann, I defiantly enjoyed it!

Carrie Ann Ryan Interview

Please welcome Carrie Ann Ryan on Julie's Book Review. Carrie is giving away a large swag pack. Please check out the rafflecopter to the right of the page to try for our featured giveaway!

 Welcome Carrie!

Hi Julie! Thank you so much for having me here today!!
How are you doing today?
I’m doing fantastic and ready to for the world to read Justin and Rina’s Christmas story!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m a twenty something ex-Chemist and teacher who spends way too much time working on romance novels. Love it though!

What kind of books do you write? Do you have a favorite genre?
I’m a paranormal romance author. I love making up my new worlds and breaking into my new rules. As for reading, I love reading contemporary. Yes, I’m weird! LOL

You have a new book coming out.....Can you tell us a little bit about the series? the Book?
The Holiday, Montana series is a five book series about the Cooper Brothers where each book centers around one Cooper and one Holiday. I have Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s’ day and a couple more. Since its paranormal, my holiday myths will be alive and well. Yep, you get to meet Santa in this one!
Santa’s Executive is about a Justin’s place in the world of Santa and elves. He’s Santa’s Executive, a new role for him, and he has to help out the business that is Santa and the North Pole. Since he’s so new, a bombshell elf, Rina, will have to come down and help him out. Of course, sparks will fly and when the baddie comes to town, they have to rely on each other.
It’s a cute story, like the rest of my Holiday books, so not as dark as my other series. But I love writing things like this! Is anything in your books based on real life experiences or purely all imagination? Um, I don’t think so! Unless Santa’s real, it’s just from my mind. But who knows, he could be knocking on my door any moment. Are there any characters from any of your stories you would like to go back to, or is there a theme or idea you would love to work with? Since I write a series, I get a chance to visit all my characters again. I do want to work with dragons...and I will in the Dante’s Circle series. LOL
So Far I have loved each of you books!!

Do you have any advice to aspiring authors?
Write! Don’t think about writing, but just do it.
Great Advice

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? The best compliment?
Um, I don’t want to really say what they said to me, but it helping me eventually…I think.

 The best compliment?
My first reader email saying they loved my book. I love love love reader emails.

OK how about some fun stuff.

Cats or Dogs?
I have two cats because of time, but I love both kinds.

Which of your characters would you love to meant in real life?
Any of my Redwood Pack boys!
I would love that myself!! LOL

Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate if it’s not by itself.

 Name a Favorite author?
I have too many, but my favorite that I read this week is Ilona Andrews.

Do you like to travel? Favorite place to visit?
I like going new places, but hate airports LOL. At this point, I just like visiting family, we live too far away now.

Name a favorite book (your or someone else's) and why?
My favorite that I’ve written is Dust of My Wings. It was a new world for me and about every type of shifter, angel, demon, dragon and other thing you can imagine.
I have too many favorite books that I’ve read!

J. L. Oiler Review of Mated to Myth

Mated to Myth

This book introduces us to a woman raised within the confines of a military like complex. Mia has been taught the fine arts of dealing death and destruction to her own kind..people of myth. She is a scientific experiment..a mixture of all the creatures of myth, but she is part of a government group whose philosophy is that all freaks should die. However, never quite feeling like she belonged, Mia seeks out someone with whom she can explore her eternal desires. Little does she know the demon man she finds is looking for more than a one night stand and he's part of a package deal.

Suspenseful, erotic, intriguing story of myth.  If you enjoy vampires, demons, or any other mythical creatures you should read this book.  It's fast paced & will keep you reading til the very end.

I rate this book 4 stars.

Review of the Furry United Coalition(3 Books) by Eva Langlais

Book One: Bunny and the Bear

So if you want to protect a large mean and annoying grizzly bear, a Lawyer at that, from an unknown threat...the best choice is to obviously do it without his knowledge because he would just want to control and mess everything up. Fortunately, every one know that all you need to get a grizzly bear to follow your lead is a his honey pot, or in this case, Miranda. Chase's new neighbor Miranda is sexy and he can't think about anything but her and what he want to do with her ever since he laid eyes on her. Seems like she is more focused on torturing him than letting him get his hands on her though. Once the cat is out of the bag though and she saves him with her "bunny", can he accept her being a secret agent?

Book Two: Swan and the Bear
Manwhore of the office Mason has finally fallen hard for a woman, and she just shoots him down and laughs in his face every day. So being a super secret agent isn't all that impressive when the woman you are trying to impress is the computer genius Jessie that keeps the agency functioning. Hiding secrets, well, how about not knowing that she's a princess, much to her dismay. One tiny problem...someone tries to abduct them from the agency, and then really abducts them from Mason's place. Oh, and there is that problem of trying to get Jessie to love him back.

Book Three: Croc and the Fox
Finally!!! The secret liar of the maniac that keep attacking them is found. When Viktor and the other Furry United Coalition members get to the level where the experiment are held, they find people/animals that have been horribly disfigured and mutated from experiments. Even more shocking is the normal looking woman that doesn't seem to remember who she is and has been there so long that just the sight of the open sky terrifies her. Viktor is the biggest strongest warrior she sees and he makes her feel safe, so she is sticking to him...literally. NO matter how much Viktor tries to do the right thing, Renee has to teach Viktor that sometimes a woman has to follow what her heart.  And just because she's been a prisoner most of her life doesn't mean that she doesn't know anything, but you have to ask the right questions to get the right answers. By the way...what exactly did they do to her in that lab?

Four out of Five stars for the series.
Adult content Fast paced action comedy paranormal romance
I laughed out loud the first time I read each of these books and I still laugh out loud whenever I re-read them.

Review of My Twisted Drink: A Vampire Romance by JoAnn Mayer

My Twisted Drink: A Vampire Romance

In a society where Vampires exist alongside humans without fear, Charlotte is a human who has become renowned for her skill as an exceptional “drink.” She works in a club, along side her best friend Charisse, pleasing her customers, vampires from all walks of life. When Charisse drags Charlotte to a local mansion for an interview to be a "personal drink" to a local vampire, Charlotte gets the job, much to her own chagrin. Charlotte then moves into Alexander's mansion and meets Nathan, his servant, who is obviously more than he appears to be at first glance. But what is he? Both Alexander, her new vampire boss, and Nathan are hiding things from her. Nathan’s abilities are definitely not human and Alexander’s old-fashioned ways keep Charlotte on her toes. Charlotte meets more vampires and other people who exist in this twilight world. Intrigue, love, power plays, suspense, fear and seduction; all of these play out in various scenarios during Charlotte's "relationship" with her new guardian and his servant...but where will it lead to in the end? Only time will tell.

I give “My Twisted Drink” 3 out of 5 stars. If the writing and editing had been better, it would have gotten much higher marks. The story is engaging and enjoyable. I like the world that Ms. Mayer has created. It is very interesting and mysterious. She reveals a little at a time. There are many creatures in it besides vampires and normal humans. However, the book could use some heavy editing. For example, the author has one character’s dialogue mixed in the same paragraph with another character’s thoughts or actions. It can get very confusing at times. Overall, if you can excuse the confusing dialogue, the book is a very fun read and I recommend it.

3 out of 5 Stars

Review of Love Lost & Found by Jean C. Joachim and Ben Tanner

Love Lost & Found

Get ready to set sail into a world wind romance. Tara has just found out that the man she was ready to spend her life with is a cheater. Mick has just found that the women he was ready to settle down with dumped him with a “Dear John” letter. All the while a terrorist cell millions miles away are planning a major terrorist attack. Here comes a juicy love story filled with just enough lust to make you want to read this book in a private locale.

Although this book was different than my usual reads it proved to be outstanding. I really took some time ready this one because it was packed with details. This book had bad breakups, very good make ups, and a sizzling plot. The main characters were just beautiful enough to be factious but down top earth enough to make you see them as real people finding love in hard times. Pick up, Love Lost & Found by Jean C. Joachim and Ben Tanner, a hot cup of hot chocolate, a throw and snuggle up.

Catherine was on the run from her past when she rolled into town. Matt had already ran from his past and was now a small town sheriff. Their hearts collide but will they be able to put their fears aside and trust each other with their secrets?
The killer believes Catherine will be his perfect green eyed doll. Will Matt be able to find the killer before he gets to Catherine? The hunt is on during one of the worst droughts that Texas has ever seen and time is running short to find the monster.

I could not get this book out of my mind. It’s one of those stories that has you thinking about it even when you aren’t reading it. The chemistry between Catherine and Matt nearly sets the pages on fire! Their relationship is so tender despite their fears and trust issues.
The suspense and horror of who the killer might be and what he might do next will keep you on the edge of your seat and up all night. The insights into the killer’s mind make it even more scary and thought provoking. It makes you wonder........
The Green Eyed Doll has the perfect mixture of romance and suspense. I can’t wait to read another book by Jerrie Alexander (which will hopefully be about Ash). I have found another author to add to my favorites list.

If I were to give this book a star rating it would most definitely deserve 5 out of 5!
