2 E-copies of When We Dance
First why don't you tell us a little about yourself?
I am Alanna Lucas- historical romance author, lover of books, dark chocolate,
and travel.
My first novella, Face to Face, won the Boroughs Publishing Group’s ‘What’s in a
Name’ contest in 2013. The guideline was to take the title of a song that inspired you
and adopt it as the title of your story. Face to Face by Siouxsie and the Banshees was
the inspiration for the novella.
Newest release?
I had three back-to-back releases in 2014, starting with Face to Face. The
second was When We Dance, and my newest release is Mistletoe Waltz.
What can we expect from your stories, action, drama, romance, sex, blood and guts?
Romance is a must in all my stories.
Do you have a favorite character in your stories? Who? and Why?
It would have to be the hero in one of my WIP’s. He is complex and intriguing,
with quite the temper, but with a heart of gold.
Give us an interesting fun fact or a few about your book or series:
What started as a contest win through Boroughs Publishing Group has turned
into a series of novellas inspired by dancing where the hero and heroine experience the
allure and sensuality of the waltz.
Has there been any other authors who have inspired your work or helped you out with
your stories?
The support and encouragement from my fellow chapter mates-both local and
online- has been an amazing part of this journey.
What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Post reviews on Amazon, recommend it to others, and stuff like that.
Do you have any tips for readers or advice for other writers trying to get published?
Learn your craft, know your genre, and most important, join organizations. After I
joined RWA and discovered my local chapter, everything seemed to fall into place.
Do you have a favorite author? If yes, what draws you to that person’s work?
Johanna Lindsey and Sabrina Jeffries. I just love their books :-)
Where do you gather most of the inspiration for your work?
From travel and music.
Favorite places to travel or visit?
I love to travel! I have been to all 50 States, kissed the Blarney Stone, and driven
on the Nurburgring in Germany.
In which genre do you prefer to write and why?
I write historical romance. I have always enjoyed researching and learning about
different time periods. It seemed only natural to write what I enjoy. There is one
downside- it is far too easy to get wrapped up in research and forget what I am
supposed to be writing.
And now, before you go, how about a snippet from your book that is meant to intrigue
and tantalize us:( Include links to were we can find your work)
From When We Dance….
“My dear, I do not believe Mr. Chartwick intends to make an appearance today.”
All words were lost to the sea of emotions that boiled within and hot tears threatened to
spill. Her hopes were shattered. What was she to do? How would she endure the gossip?
“I will make an announcement.” Her father placed his hand in the small of her back,
guiding her toward the exterior double doors. Placing a soft kiss on her forehead, her father
whispered, “Go on home with your mother.”
Artemisia watched her father enter the chapel filled with guests. His head held high in the
face of yet another scandal. All heads turned his way in anticipation of an explanation. When her
father passed the second to last pew, a confident blond head turned round, his eyes met her eyes.
The self-righteousness in his stare inflamed her agony. Nigel shrugged one elegantly clad
shoulder and gave her a lopsided scornful sneer of a smile that said I told you so.
In that moment, all of her excellent manners deserted her.
Instead of leaving the chapel, instead of finding comfort in the bosom of her family,
instead of remaining calm, Artemisia sealed her fate as a hot-tempered spinster. Walking with
determination, she entered the chapel and approached Nigel. He did not stand, nor speak a word,
just continued to smirk at her.
The muscles in her hand tightened into a fist with an ache that screamed for release. She
stared down at his perfect square jaw, focusing on her target. Ignoring common sense, she swung
her arm with all her might.
When her fist hit his firm jaw, she stifled a cry of pain. Pursing her lips, she sucked in a
deep breath, blinked away the tears and stormed out of the chapel, grabbing her bouquet of pink
roses from her shocked mother. Instead of leaving to the sound of cheerful bells tolling, gasps
and laughter were her wedding march.
