In the second book of the Deck of Lies series, The Tower by Jade Varden, We learn that River Scott, a friend of Rain Ramey also known as Chloe Von Shelton, was arrested in suspicion of murdering Laurel Riordan. As River sits in a jail cell waiting to hear if he will be set free or face the death penalty, Rain and her new brother Sawyer dig into Laurel's past and try to figure out how to prove River's innocence. During their unauthorized investigation, they learn more about themselves than about Laurel. Could Chloe Von Shelton just be another lie in Rain's life? Can Rain actually be, Glory Riordan, daughter of Edward Riordan and Elizabeth Von Shelton? Who is Laurel's killer and why did he or she commit this fateful crime? Find out by reading The Tower by Jade Varden.
I gave this book a four and a half out of five stars. The
character development and scandalous plot left over from the first novel
is picked up, shaken, and completely twisted. There were minor
editorial errors. I would love to finish this series and see where life
takes the young Rain Ramey and her companions. I can't wait for the next
book. Young readers everywhere will enjoy this book as much as I did.
