Interview with June Kramin

Welcome to Julies Book Review! June Kramin is visiting JBR today!

Musa is giving away some awesome prizes, take a look to the right of this page for details.

We are all very glad you came here to JBR. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Thanks for having me! I spent most of my years on Maui but now I live in Minnesota. It’s not very exciting being me. I love to write & therefore spend my fair share of time yelling at my fictional characters. When weather permits, I ride my horses or walk my dogs. We don’t have cable TV but I’m a big movie buff.

What genres do you write?

My novels fall under “Women’s Fiction”. They include time travel, thriller/suspense, and romance. I also write a middle grade fantasy series (Before Happily Ever After) under the pen name off Ann T. Bugg (after my nickname Auntybug)

As a reader I love all genres but my followers want to know what to except from your books. Action, adventure, romance, sex, magic??

There is always a romantic element to my stories. There have been characters I could not stop from having sex if I wanted to, but my heat rating usually stands at 3. My men always love their feisty women, no matter what they put them through! There’s plenty of action in my Hunter series with the mob being involved, and always a twist or two in my time travel and suspense. I’ll even make you cry in one, and you’ll thank me for it.

Who is your favorite character(s) from your books?

Gah. I hate this question. It’s impossible to pick just one. I love each one for special reasons. Most of them mainly for being able to handle the women I throw at them. Bix in Double Mocha, Heavy on Your Phone Number really stole my heart, though.

What is your newest release? can you tell us a little about it?

Amanda’s Return is the sequel for Hunter’s Find. I didn’t expect to write a sequel – it just fell into place. I guess the characters weren’t done with me. I loved returning Amanda to New York and throwing her back in the heat of things. It was one of those “whodunit” books that the ending surprised even me. I love when that happens.

What about future projects? any hints?

I have a release in late April. Money Didn’t Buy Her Love. The characters came to life out of a single scene I had. I envisioned a guy slamming his brakes to avoid hitting a girl crossing the street. Suddenly she was in a wedding dress. I loved where it went from there. Dani is an heiress, Jeremy is a plumber. They fall in love and Dani has to continually fight her family for the right to do so. I used Minnesota for the location but sent them to Maui as well. Write what you know! I used my son & daughter-in-law for the cover. It will probably always be my favorite!

Can you give aspiring authors any advice?

Run for the hills!!! LOL. Seriously, writing is a lot harder than you probably think. Well, the writing is the fun/easy part – it’s everything else. You have to have thick skin in this business. Not everyone is going to love your work and you have to learn not to take it personal. If it’s what you really want to do – keep going. I promise the good will eventually outweigh the bad.

How about some "fun" personal stuff!

You mean like having a tramp stamp of a Humuhumunukunukuapua’a? A birthday of 6/6/66? A secret super of power of knowing the lyrics to every eighty’s song ever written? Having the world’s worst memory when it comes to yesterday but remembering things that people don’t even remember about themselves from high school? LOL. Nothing horribly juicy for me. I have no secrets. I’ve had a colorful 20’s & it’s all in a book somewhere!

What book have you read that touched you deeply? and why? (yours or someone elses)

Nothing hits me as hard as my own books. I guess it’s the personal connection with almost every one of them. The very first one I completed years ago was a very traumatic part of my life. I guess I needed to put it down in words for closure. I finally have someone helping me beat it into shape and will start submitting it soon.

Favorite past time activity?

Drunk shopping. That's a sport, isn’t it? ;)

a favorite book or author you can recommend (not your own)?and WHY?

I recently fell in love with a fellow author at Musa’s book. Finding Grace by Rhea Rhodan. Perfect mix of suspense with romantic element. I’m nagging for a sequel.

Favorite place to travel to?

I’ve been gone for almost 20 years but Maui will always be home. It’s not for the sun and beaches, it’s the people I miss.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I’m pretty easy to please in that department. I’ve been mixing up a variety of things on Pandora these days. 80’s, the Billy Idol station rocks! (no pun intended), a few newer bands (One Republic) etc, and every now & then – country. Pretty much anything goes BUT – I need silence when I write. I’m hopeless about singing along to everything. And hey, just because I know all the words doesn’t mean I can carry a tune. You’ve been warned.

And finally where can we find your books?(please include any links you want including buy links)

My e-books are available everywhere. Amazon, B&N, Kobo, Smashwords, All romance... A few are even at itunes. Most are available in print as well – some are coveted and only available at signings. 3. Okay, quick admission here. A happy reader of June's books, I saw on FB she was going to be over here and popped in to comment on how much I enjoyed her writing. I really just skimmed the interview. It wasn't until dawdling on my iPad later, Googling my book, that I saw June had mentioned FINDING GRACE in the interview. DOH! Looks like we're members of the mutual admiration society :>). P.S. Did I mention how my world pretty much stopped turning while I was reading HUNTER'S FIND?
