I’m a twenty-something romance novelist who likes to stay up late and write about good girls,
good boys, and everything in between. If you’d like to know more about me, my writing habits,
thoughts on love, and life-long obsession with Johnny Depp, feel free to check out this cool
video interview I did over the holidays. Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ky_VFpfbfOg
Newest release?
Jungle Eyes. It’s the tale of Henry Rochester, a twenty-five-year-old New Yorker who finds
himself stranded on a deserted tropical island with a beautiful young woman in the year 1899.
What can we expect from your stories?
Romance. Suspense. Action. Adventure. The love story between the two main characters always
lies at the heart of every novel, though I enjoy mixing in those mystery/thriller elements to keep
various degrees of tension at play.
Do you have a favorite character in your stories? Who? Why?
Jeanine in Emerald Green. Jeremy in Me & Mr. Jones. Louisa in Jungle Eyes. All have minor,
yet crucial roles to play. Without the supporting characters, the rest of the story line would fall
flat. Essentially, they bring out sides of the protagonist that the reader would never see otherwise.
Give us an interesting fun fact about your book or series.
Jungle Eyes is the only book title I’ve had so far that took no long-term thought. It just popped
into my head one day and that was it. I just knew it was the one.
Have there been any other authors who have inspired your work or helped you out with your
stories?
Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series is what got me writing in the first place, back when I was in
high school. That led to Emerald Green, which I later rewrote after college. Thanks to Edward
and Bella, I started reading Young Adult Romances at 16, and reading for fun was something
that I hadn’t done in years. I was so inspired by their love story that I picked up the pen myself,
and every story I’ve written so far has always led to another one. I’m very thankful for Twilight
and the way I responded to it, because I’ve been writing ever since.
What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Write a review. The reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, etc. are so crucial to us
writers out there, and one of the best things you can do as a reader or fan is write one. Also, tell
your friends. Word of mouth is what made bestsellers like Fifty Shades of Grey turn into
international phenomena. It’s the way I first heard about Twilight.
Do you have any advice for other writers trying to get published?
Believe in your stories and don’t let anyone try to change them. Editing is necessary, but can
extract the life from your characters if you’re not careful. Focus on grammar errors and passages
that may seem unclear to the reader. Everything else is entirely subjective.
Do you have a favorite author? If yes, what draws you to that person’s work?
Tough question. I have many. Right now, I’m in love with Micalea Smeltzer’s work. I just
finished reading my sixth novel of hers, and I’m always so sad when I’ve reached the end. Her
stories are the kind that are easy to lose yourself in, and I wish I could stay lost in them forever.
Can you remember one of the first things you wrote? What makes it memorable?
A poem using metaphors about the five senses. I was in the third grade and won 3rd place in some
kind of Creative Writing contest at school. I came across it the other day, and suddenly my
choice of career made sense.
Where do you gather most of the inspiration for your work?
A lot of times, other great works inspire me to write. A good movie, book, or song. It’s about the
way I’m feeling at the time and the way another story makes me feel, no matter the medium.
Do you have any other interesting hobbies you would like to share?
I’m also a singer-songwriter. I was interested in music before books, but I still write both. They
are equally important in defining who I am. I would never give up one for the other.
Favorite places to travel or visit?
Montana and Wyoming. I visited Yellowstone with my parents as a pre-teen, and we drove the
entire way there from Florida. There’s something about the American West. Untouched land
that’s been protected and conserved. I’d love to go back someday and just write. Peace. Quiet.
It’s heaven out there.
