Welcome to my chew the fat special. Can you tell me a little about yourself?
I am… passionate. Sensitive. I hate real evil and suffering, I love kindness and compassion and empathy. I adore intelligence and knowledge, science and advancement; it keeps the world turning. I abhor conservative fear and loathing; it holds us back. I am a New York Times bestselling author of paranormal romance (and other things), and I am really fond of hockey. ;)
What kind of books do you write?
I write in all genres from young adult fantasy to young adult paranormal romance to romantic thrillers to science fiction and fantasy. You name it.
Newest release?
I’ve released three books in the last three months: In October, I released Secretly Sam the second book in The October Trilogy. In November, I released A Sinister Game, a sizzling hot stand-alone paranormal romance. And in December, I am releasing Death’s Angel, the third book in the paranormal romance series The Lost Angels. J
What should we expect in your book?
This third novel centers on Azrael – the vampire of the bunch. Not only is he a vampire, he’s the king of vampires. He’s also the former angel of death. A more powerful, dark, and dangerous character I have never written. He is…. He’s in a league all his own.
How HOT? MM,MF, MMF, etc.
With the exception of an intimated scene in The Spell, the third book in the Big Bad Wolf series, all of my books are fairly standard in the MF department. Now, as to hotness – I’d say this one will leave you permanently branded.
How do you get ideas for these sexy books?
The characters come knocking on my door, give me that smile of theirs, pin me with those unbelievable eyes, and the rest just comes naturally. ;)
Anything in your stories based on real experiences?
Oh yeah. See above. LOL
Toughest criticism?
I’ve had some very hateful reviews in the past. I mean, these were reviews so horrible, it was obvious the person hadn’t read the book or was jealous or was just plain mean and bored. At first, these really hurt. Now I don’t even bother reading them. Their hatred is their problem.
Best compliment?
I get these every day from my readers. It constantly and unendingly astounds me. I am the luckiest writer in the world. The feedback I get just rockets me into Cloud Nine and leaves me there. I’ve had readers tell me that I helped them through chemo treatments, through the loss of loved ones, and that I’ve maintained their sanity during moments that would have otherwise broken them. I can’t tell you what that means to me.
Any advice for aspiring authors?
Never give up.
I don’t say that lightly, and I’m not reciting a platitude. I mean it.
Never. Give. Up.
How about some fun stuff?
Okay!
Dogs or cats?
Cats.
1 Fave book?
The Phantom Tollbooth.
Why?
It’s just so witty, so intelligent, and there is so much there to be gleaned and learned from it.
Favorite place to travel?
London. Britain in general, in fact.
1 fave author?
Samuel Clemens.
Why?
He was beautifully duplicitous. LOL He gave the appearance of being so incredibly genteel, so soft-spoken intelligent, and yet there was a fire beast under his skin that you could see every once in a while as it scorched the pages of his works. He had a biting wit. He suffered so much, as so many did in less medically advanced times. I can see this empathy in his words as well. He’s just very interesting to me.
Is this your full time job?
It’s my full time job and then some. I often work 20-hour days.
If yes, anything else you want to do?
I would love to be able to give up the marketing aspect of my job and just concentrate solely on writing. I would really, really love that.
Where can we find you and your books?
You can find me behind the screen of my laptop.
You can find my books at booksellers everywhere, including internationally. My print books are sold in the US, the UK, and Germany. My indie eBook novels are sold via Amazon in the US, the UK, Italy, Germany, Japan, and a host of other countries that I can’t recall at the moment.
